Light and Fire
With all the imagery of Easter, this is an engaging short service for children on the Saturday evening before Easter Sunday.
We light fires outside and from them candles are lit inside the church.
The whole church moves from darkness to light; from coldness to warmth.
Everybody lives and experiences the symbolism of Easter.
Jesus has risen from the dead. His light dispels our darkness.
We gathered at the model we had made of Golgotha and as we sat the lights in the church became bright around our model. On Good Friday it was grey and lifeless, but was now full of green moss and brightly coloured spring flowers: the stone had been removed. A white cloth was left on the floor. Jesus had risen from the dead. He is alive!
